Ventilation
It is important to keep your home ventilated to prevent condensation and dampness. If your house is heated by gas or solid fuel, you must keep all vents clear to prevent a dangerous build-up of carbon monoxide – do not block vents under any circumstances as this could endanger your life.
This video provides advice on ventilating your home.
Trickle vents are small openings found in windows or doors that allow fresh air to circulate in your home. These devices play a crucial role in maintaining indoor air quality and reducing condensation and preventing mould issues in your home as they provide a controlled and constant flow of fresh air into your living spaces, even when windows are closed.
These devices are typically installed at the top of window frames and can be adjusted or closed as needed, giving you control over the amount of ventilation in each room. However, it is recommended that you keep them open to maintain a healthier indoor environment and comply with building regulations.
Trickle vents in the open position help to reduce humidity levels caused by cooking, bathing and breathing but also remove pollutants and odours from the home. Without adequate ventilation, your home may become stuffy and prone to dampness, but more importantly can lead to health issues for you and your family and damage to your property fixtures and fittings.
